CHOICE Review
Intended to provide explanations of science and/or research relative to resistance training, this book offers short chapters focusing on anatomy, physiology, and training techniques but does not provide in-depth details. This concise approach is good for the layperson, but it does not offer those already versed in the field a significant amount of additional background. That said, the chapter on resistance-training research, with a one-paragraph summary on the 57 articles provided, covers a wide range of topics and will be a selling point for readers looking for links to more detailed information. Also useful are chapters describing how to set up a generalized program (with photos depicting the exercises). In general, Bowling does an adequate job of supplying background and suggestions for a general consumer on how to set up a resistance-training program. Summing Up: Recommended. General readers only. General Readers. Reviewed by R. L. Jensen.
